Who wants a piece of America?

For my Art and Propaganda class final I had to analyze a piece of propaganda art and turn it into another piece of art. Of course I had to do something with food, so I choose to do a cake.

The Object: A car

The Subject: America (notice the licence plate)

The Resource: A billboard

The Reason: To show that looks are not everything. So how did I go about doing this? Look at the cake! It is beautiful, but what is it made of?

The Materials: CAKE! but...
for the cake it used...
Cake mix, Chicken Broth. Cream of Chicken soup, Cheese, Olive Juice and Tuna

for the the frosting:
Shortening, Powdered Sugar, lots of SALT, Olives (to look like chocolate chips), and Olive Juice.

The batter for the cake looked disgusting and smelt pretty bad too.

You could smell the salt in the frosting!

It was so nasty! When I went to present this to my class it was so funny. My teacher was so excited for it. I asked everyone if they wanted a piece of America and then distributed the cake out. I told everyone to wait till everyone had a piece before they would eat it. It smelt so bad that I am not sure how many people actually did take a bit. I liked the reactions that I did get from the class to.

The Moral: Don't let looks deceive you. Always look into things before taking a bit.

Elegant Eating

Last semester for one of my culinary arts classes we put on a 6 course dinner. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun! This semester I found out that the class was going to do it again, so this time I was able to be a guest rather than the hostess. Christina, Lori and Kurt came with me!

They even had an ice sculpture of the Eiffel Tower at the dinner!

Here we are waiting for our food to come:
Kurt did not want to take a picture with Christina...

We had to choose between two different menus with set courses.
Here was my menu:

Appetizer: Savory Shrimp Cheesecake

Salad: Walnut Pear Salad

Soup: Butternut Squash Soup (it was so good I forgot to take a picture of it)

Sorbet: Cranberry Pomegranate Sorbet

Main Course: Steak with Horseradish Mash Potatoes and Asparagus

and last, but not least Dessert: Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Mouse

We all went away satisfied and full. We decided that if we were rich we would eat like this all the time. I had so much fun with you guys. Thank you Christina, Lori and Kurt for coming with me!

The next day Christina and I were walking on campus and look what we found...

Christina wanted to kick it, but we didn't want to mess it up. But to satisfy our urge I got a picture of Christina pretending to kick it.

The weekend went out with a Bang!!

Upside-Down Cake

A few months ago I was googled crazy cakes and I ran into one that I really liked! I saved the picture in hopes that one day I would be able to create it. Well, in my cake decorating class we were suppose to make a cake to go in an event show. When they were going through the different rooms I thought of the picture!! I was so excited, I would actually be able to make the cake. Time came to start. I made the cakes, and they turned out so yummy! Next step, cut the angles on the cake, went better then expected! "Wow, this is going better then I thought!" ...Next step, stack the cakes...luck has run out and from now on it was down hill. I have a few choose words that I wanted to say, but am to much of a lady to do so. Needless to say I have wanted to chuck the cake out the tallest window since that day. The cake cracked, bulged, decorations have fallen off, and the structure has threatened to fall apart!! All in all the WORST cake I have ever created! Well, I could not do much about it, the cake still had to go into the even show. So I bucked up and put it together and let it be on display in a very well decorated room for the show. Worst of all another girl in my class had a cake in the room too and her's was awesome! I do have to say the pictures do more justice to the cake then the actual cake. So here she is...

How do YOU host a murder...with STYLE!

Friday, March 5th, 2010 a train left for Paris from Riviera #21, the apartment of Kimberly Brooksby. The occupants of said train where:

Amber a.k.a. "Barbra" and Curtis a.k.a. "Khover",

Steve a.k.a. "Wey" and Lindsay a.k.a. "Mary"

Andrew a.k.a. "The Duke" and Jill a.k.a "Idelle"

Cory a.k.a. "Mal", and Kimberly a.k.a. "Belinda".

As the train went on it's way they discovered that there has been a murder and one of above people was the culprit! If they got the person to confess, the rest would be able to walk free. All had motives, but who was the actual murder? We all assumed our rolls and went to the work to finding out the killer...

Discussion was hot as we went through the night!

All in all we had a fun night!!! There was great company, great food, and great fun! And the hostess even received a flower for the night!
